ASU’s TEFL/TESOL Certificate Program at AUL

 

In April 2022, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Azerbaijan University of Languages ​​(AUL) and Arizona State University (ASU), one of the most prestigious universities in the United States. According to the memorandum, ASU and AUL will provide joint training, with ASU online coursework and AUL in-person practicum for learners to earn a 150-hour TESOL certificate.

What is TEFL/TESOL?

The terms TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are used when English is taught in non-native countries.

Why TEFL/TESOL?

English has become a global language in many areas, particularly, in education, politics, science, and technology, and is taught in more than 100 countries around the world as a second language. TEFL/TESOL program is a natural platform for the development of excellence in teaching English as a foreign/second language. The certificate awarded upon the successful completion of the program will provide an opportunity to teach English not only in Azerbaijan, but in any other country in the world.

Course highlights:  

The Program will include: online courses created and provided by ASU, and facilitated by AUL faculty; and an in-person practicum at AUL and led by AUL faculty. The total duration of the TESOL program is 150 hours: 120 hours of the TESOL program will be delivered online by ASU, and 30 hours of practicum (lesson observation etc.) will be conducted by AUL specialists in cooperation with ASU. Participants can take only a 120-hour program leading to a TEFL certificate. However, those participants who wish to continue the study towards the TESOL certificate will have to take the additional 30-hour practicum segment. Participants will be provided with an access to materials and resources necessary for the study and practical tasks, as well as lesson planning.

Course dates:

The first round of the program will begin at the end of May 2022 (additional information on the date will be provided). The program is self-paced and can be completed in minimum 8 (for TEFL)/10 (for TESOL) and maximum 15 weeks. An extension date could be considered. If at least three people apply, a new round of the program will begin, regardless of whether or not the first round is completed.

Certificate:

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an official TEFL or TESOL certificate from Arizona State University.
