The Academic Section was created within Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages after the 50th Anniversary of the USSR on 6 June 1973.

In 2006 the Registration Sector started operating within the Academic Section.

In 2013 the Centre for Quality Assurance was integrated to the Academic Section, and the Section started operating as the Department of Curriculum and Quality Assurance.

In 2016 four centres were created within the Department as a result of the structural changes:

  • The Centre for Practice, Professional Development and Career,
  • The Centre for The Students’ Admission and Students’ Registration,
  • The Centre for Knowledge Assessment and Monitoring,
  • The Centre for Quality Assurance and Work with the Graduates.

In September 2017 the Department was renamed anew and became the Academic Department which included the following sections:

  • The Section of Students’ Admission and Students’ Registration,
  • The Section of Practice, Professional Development and Career,
  • The Section of Knowledge Assessment, Monitoring and Quality Assurance.

The key activities of the Academic Department together with its sections are as follows,

  1. Developing the main academic documents of the University – curriculums, curriculum and methodological recommendations for on-site training and the schedules of academic process; and providing the mutual relations among the sections of the University;
  2. Analyzing and generalizing the information on the management of the academic process, and preparing the appropriate decisions of the Rector’s office;
  3. Planning substantially the academic process and organizing it;
  4. Information provision of the monitoring system over the academic process in all the forms of education and the specialist training at the university;
  5. Improving continuously the normative-methodological documents related to the academic process;
  6. Planning and preparing the schedules of academic activities, examination sessions and the work of the State Attestation Commission;
  7. Developing the drafts of the Rector’s orders and instructions on academic process;
  8. Monitoring over the teachers’ and students’ academic discipline;
  9. Monitoring over the organization and course of the examination sessions, generalizing and analyzing their outcomes;
  10. Organizing and implementing the assessment of the ba and ma level students’ achievements irrespective of the form of specialization and education at the AUL;
  11. Monitoring over the assessment and checking the examination outcomes in coordination with dean’s offices and departments;
  12. Monitoring over the activities of the State Attestation Commissions, generalizing and analyzing the outcomes of the activities of the Commissions on the basis of the Chairmen’s reports;
  13. Preparing the estimates and other documents for the formation of the department staffs, monitoring over the norms of the education plans and academic loads of the teachers and departments, monitoring over the realization of the academic loads;
  14. Preparing competition announcements for the positions of the teachers whose election period has terminated, as well as for vacancies, and admitting the applications;
  15. Checking the departments and faculties for individual issues related to their academic and methodological activities, participating in the monitoring activities on the basis of the plan of the Rector’s office;
  16. Corresponding with citizens and offices on academic issues;
  17. Preparing the state statistics data;
  18. Organizing academic, on-sight training and pedagogical practice, concluding contracts with the on-site training bases on their organization, monitoring the course of the internships, admitting the reports on the internships;
  19. Conducting self-analysis and self-assessment at the AUL.

The Section started functioning in 2006 as the Registration Section within the Education Section. Following the structural changes in 2016, it started functioning as the Students’ Enrollment and Assessment Centre at the Department of Curriculum and Quality Monitoring, and since October 2017 continues working as the Branch of Students’ Enrollment and Students’ Registration at the Education Department.

The main activities of the Section of Students’ Enrollment and Students’ Registration are as follows,

  1. Preparation of academic transcripts;
  2. Registration in connection with the students’ enrollment (for BA and MA levels);
  3. Data input into the State Electronic Data System “Student-Graduate” of the State Examination Centre (personal, mobility and graduation data);
  4. Registration of the students with academic debts to enroll them in education process again;
  5. Preparation of the list of all failures at all faculties;
  6. Development of the draft order on the organization of additional education;
  7. Development of data on the students who are allowed to the Final Graduation State Attestation, as well as on whether the students will get ordinary diploma or the one with honours.
  8. Downloading the students data base in all aspects.
  9. Sending presentations to the relevant dean’s offices on the students, who have carried out education program and been allowed to the Final Graduation State Attestation.

The Section started operating as the Centre for Knowledge Assessment and Monitoring at the Curriculum and Quality Monitoring Department following the structural changes in November 2016, and since October 2017 has been continuing its activities as the Knowledge Assessment, Monitoring and Quality Assurance Section.

The key activities of the Knowledge Assessment, Monitoring and Quality Assurance Section are as follows,

  1. examining and monitoring the standard-based legal normative documents of dean’s offices at the University and departments within them;
  2. examining curriculums, syllabi, teachers’ annual academic plans, students’ individual plans, transferring the analytic data to appropriate institutions and analyzing the outcomes;
  3. planning and compiling the schedules of the examination sessions and the State Attestation Commissions’ work in collaboration with the dean’s offices at the AUL, organizing and holding the Final Graduation Examinations;
  4. Organizing winter, spring examination sessions, summer school and monitoring their course;
  5. generalizing the outcomes of the examination sessions, analyzing and sending them to appropriate dean’s offices;
  6. analyzing the number of the students, who failed at the examinations, or are not allowed to the examinations as well as missed the examinations for excusable reasons in faculties;
  7. making up the list of the courses from which the students fail most, sending it to the relevant departments and analyzing the outcomes;
  8. calculating the students’ maintenance allowances for each specialty in each Faculty and submitting the outcomes to the accounts division;
  9. organizing the teachers’ achievements and assessment of the students at BA and MA levels at the AUL.
