Multiple Assessment
Grading Policy at Azerbaijan University of Languages is based upon the use of multiple assessments. The following varieties of class activities are taken into consideration by instructors for assessment:
1.Quizzes (oral or written)
a. Scheduled on the syllabus
b. Unannounced ("Pop quizzes"), but listed as a possible from of assessment on the syllabus
2. Oral presentations
a. Individual
b. Group
3. Feedback or evaluation by students of other students
a. In writing (of either oral or written work)
b. Oral responses or feedback (of either oral or written work)
4. "Objective" tests
a. Multiple choice
b. True & False (oral or written)
c. Fill in the blank, or complete the sentence (oral or written)
d. Short answer (oral or written)
5. "Evaluative" tests
a. Longer answer (one or two paragraphs)
b. Short essays (1-3 pages per question)
6. Essays and compositions
a. Short essays on a single topic (2-4 pages, as above)
b. Longer essays on a single topic (5-10 pages)
7. Research papers (10-20 pages), citing and critically addressing past and present professional literature
8. Original advanced thesis (25-40 pages), also citing and addressing relevant literature.
These types are implemented by instructors during the classroom activities or as part of the mid-term tests. The final grade is determined with an account taken of the following criteria:
1.Attendance : 10% of final grade
2.Class activities: 40% of final grade
3.Final exam (including mid-term exam upon the instructor's discretion): 50%
Grading Scales
Letter Grades
B = Very good to excellent
C = Satisfactory
D = Unsatisfactory (but passing; earns full course credit)
F = Failure (earns no course credit)
Scores:
A: 90 - 100
B: 80 - 89
C: 70 - 79
D: 60 - 69
F: 50 -59
