The School of Translation offers a BA in Translation and Interpretation with the following concentrations:
a) English-Azerbaijani/Russian
b) French Azerbaijani/Russian
c) German Azerbaijani/Russian
d) Italian Azerbaijani/Russian
e) Spanish Azerbaijani/Russian
e) Spanish Azerbaijani/Russian
f) Korean Azerbaijani/Russian/English

About 500 students study in the Department of Translation.

The school's curriculum is designed to integrate courses in written and oral translation in various fields ranging from literary to technical, economic and political translation. The program strives to enables the students to reach the highest skills of their translation and interpretation skills. The goal is reached by utilizing state-of-the-art methodology of training translators and interpreters. The curriculum is designed to cover the subjects, which meet these tasks with the consideration of the latest market requirements.

The School's programs are offered by the following Departments:

a) Department of the theory and Practice of Translation
b) Department of the English language
c) Department of the French Language
d) Department of the German Language
e) Department of the Spanish and Italian Languages
f) Department of the Korean Language

The Department has a close relationship with the German Academic Exchange Board, UNESCO, York University in Toronto ( Canada ), Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs etc. The UNESCO Department, which is functioning under the auspices of the School, is a real liaison between the School and UNESCO.

UNESCO Chair in Translation and Intercultural Studies
UNESCO is working with the translation faculty of AUL. The UNESCO Chair in Translation and Intercultural Studies was officially opened at Azerbaijan University of Languages on May 5, 2000. This event was a follow-up of the 1st international conference on Future Aspects of Translation, Interpretation and Terminology in Azerbaijan in the New Global Context. The conference was held under the auspices of UNESCO on May 3-7, 1999 ( Baku,Azerbaijan ). The activities of the UNESCO Chair include:
• Training and retraining sessions for professors and/or students in the area of oral and written translation and interpretation;
• Setting up an international and regional cooperation network to further exchanges of professors, students and literary translators;
• Acquisition of books and journals, dictionaries and other kinds of literature relating to the theory and practice of translation as well as computing hardware and software;
• Networking and contacts with national and international organizations;
• Gathering statistics and data on translation (e.g. inventory of foreign works published in Azerbaijan );
• Organization of public symposia and conferences on the contemporary problems of translation and interpretation activities.
