Vagif Ismayil oglu Sadigov  was born on November 2, 1956 in Baku. In 1978 he graduated from the English language faculty of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages ​​named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR. In 1986 he got the candidate degree in philology. Until the end of 1991, he worked as a senior lecturer at the English faculty of the institite, which he had graduated from.

In early 1992, he was appointed First Secretary of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and in 1993-1995, he served as Head of the Department of Military-Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 1995-2004, Sadigov was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Austria, as well as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN Office in Vienna, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. In 1998-2004 he was the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, and in 2001-2004 he was the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the International Atomic Energy Agency. In 2004-2010 he served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in 2010-2016 he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Italy. Since 2016, he has been the Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Office in Geneva.
